Real Pet Foods’ Partnership with Hydroflux Industrial
Real Pet Foods, known for producing high-quality pet food products, understands the importance of sustainable operations. Recognising the need to improve its wastewater treatment processes at their Yatala site in QLD, Real Pet Foods turned to Hydroflux Industrial for its carbon neutral products and sustainable approach to wastewater management.
The project involved the installation of a screen, balance tank and Primary HyDAF followed by an FlooBED® MBBR and a Secondary HyDAF for removal of biomass. A HUBER screw press is being used to dewater the combined primary and secondary sludge.
The MBBR process offers several advantages over other aerobic wastewater treatment processes in trade waste applications primarily due to its robustness and reliability, and it is highly resilient to process upsets with a fast recovery if the biology is affected. MBBR’s can also be designed to target any required reduction in Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), or Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) as opposed to other aerobic systems which can suffer operationally unless a full organic conversion is achieved. This feature was beneficial in this case as compliance with Gold Coast City Council’s trade waste policy only required a 50% COD removal in the MBBR which resulted in comparably small footprint being required, along with lower CAPEX and OPEX.
In partnering with Hydroflux Industrial, Real Pet Foods has not only advanced its wastewater treatment processes and discharges wastewater well below the required limits but has also reinforced its commitment to sustainability.
